Recommended Summer Reads for Professional Development

Ah, the last day of school... and I am already thinking about next year, and ways to improve my craft.  I love the reflection time that lazy summer days offer, and so I am recommending a list of summer reads for professional development.

1)  The First Days of School by Harry Wong
I read this book almost every summer.  I love the refresher it provides about setting up routines and procedures, and ways to think about how to set up students for success.

2)  Never Work Harder Than Your Students by Robyn Jackson
I had the opportunity to read and discuss this book with Harrisonburg's District Leadership Team.  I also had the opportunity to hear Robyn Jackson in person, when she was invited to speak to DLT.  This is a great read, with reflective opportunities built in throughout the entire book.

3)  Classroom Instruction that Works by Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane Pollock
This one is not as riveting as the previous two books, but it has some great Research-Based strategies for increasing student achievement.

4)  Math Work Stations by Debbie Diller
Debbie Diller has included everything you could possibly want to know about organizing, planning and implementing math work stations in your classroom.
